Cultural Sways Through History And A Large Scale - 2074 Words

In the humanities researchers are constantly trying to discover the ways that certain artifacts are meaningfully connected. Through network analysis researches can create a historiography of what has been studied in order to display a visual picture. The picture is created by tracing the various data points and reconstructs how they are connected through nodes and edges. The more time that you have gained the more you are able to display. If your time slot is too small the engagements between the topics may not be a suitable time frame for the method, because the dialogue is not there. Tracing data points is effectively tracing the history of a concept or looking at a visual map of friends, consider Facebook for example. The degree of†¦show more content†¦Within this process nodes are created that are in dyads or a grouping of three dyads that makes a triad. The edges communicate to each other again whether the dialogue is shared or if it is one way. If the visual shows a cl ustering of triads you can read into the importance in my interest of anthropology this is important. You can infer information through triads on the relationships of many things including tribal patterns and how different people groups are linked. This is one way that the humanities can engage in digital tools and gain insight where it would otherwise be lacking (Weingard, 2013). The information provided through network analysis would be important or the humanities could see repeated or lost information not being meaningfully transmitted. Many people in the humanities would have to try to pick up the necessary tools and talents to be able to properly utilize tools like Gephi, StoryTools, or Palladio (O’Sullivan, 2016). This would cause more cross disciplinary partnerships which is a proper engagement as technology encapsulates almost all of the disciplines. Within the Anthropology and Digital Technology and Culture Programs at Washington State University- Vancouver this practice is unfolding well as more and more students are figuring out the importance of dabbling in all humanities or taking courses that discuss various disciplines because of how interconnected they are becoming

Effective Project Management Technology Infrastructure

Question: Describe about the Effective Project Management for Technology Infrastructure. Answer: Traditional Project Management The TPM has low complexity, few scope change requests, well-understood technology infrastructure, low risk, experienced and skilled project teams and plan-driven. The TPM models can be: Linear PMLC Model One step after the other, finish one activity before starting the next one. The absences of loops in this model are its major weakness therefore there is no way to go back (Wysoki, 2014). For this model the project approaches are: Waterfall Rapid Development waterfall Incremental PMLC Model With this model there is a loop that can introduce some solutions. Using the Incremental PMLC model the project will finish later than using the linear PMLC model. Comment I agree on the part that TPM has low complexity and pretty much well known goals and means of reaching them. The model has two possible models as a result of how sequencing of the various phases of the project implementation can be done. Where the phases must be done in linear order where the one phase has to be completed before stating the next one the model is said to be Linear PMLC model. An example of this is in building industry where in most cases foundation has to start, followed by walls/beams and finally roofing in that order and its difficult to make heavy structural changes to the floor once walls/beams or roofing has been made. Where previous phases can be altered without affecting the objective of the project the model is said to be Incremental. (Wysocki, 2014). Agile Project Management APM has the following characteristics:Acriticalproblem without a known solution, a previously untapped business opportunity, change-driven APM projects, APM are critical to the organization, meaningful client involvements is essential, APM projects use small co-located teams, (Wysocki, 2014). There are two kinds of APM PMLC models: Interactive PMLC Model This model is for projects where almost all the solution has been discovered. This model is used when you have an initial version of the solution. Adaptive PMLC Model This model is use for projects that very little of the solution is known. Extreme PMLC Model (xPMPMx) These projects have high risk and change. BothxPMandPMxuse the same PMLC Model but with a different purpose. Extreme Project Management (xPM) These are research and development projects, the projects are like a guess. You dont know the final solution so you dont know what the goal is. These kinds of projects have very high risks. EmertxeProject Management (MPx) In these kinds of projects the solutions are known but the goal is not. Because of the dynamic of the projects, enterprise environmental factors, business changes, internal and external environmental factors leads to a continuously review of the PMLC Models adapt them or even change them (Wysocki, 2014). Comment On Iterative, I dont agree with the student comment that almost all the solution has been discovered because the iterative concept basically depend on the continuous feedback from the client so that necessary changes can be made. (Wysocki, 2014) (Rose, 2010) On Adaptive model, I agree with the student that minimal information is known about the project and that the project has higher level of uncertainty compared with a project where iterative method is used. (Wysocki, 2014). While on extreme model, I agree with the student that the model is mostly used in research where the outcome is not known thats why the project is research based to find out the outcome of certain phenomena which has been observed. (Wysocki, 2014). References Rose, K. (2010). Effective project management: Traditional, agile, extreme, fifth edition. Question Two According to Christianity, the world is believed to have originated from God. Christians all over the world believe that God created man and woman. Additionally, He created the world in which man and woman would live in and procreate. This worldview has emanated from the Bible in the book of Genesis chapter one (American Bible Society, 1976). According to the worldview, Christians believe that people have a distinguishing element from the rest of the animals. The Christian worldview about identity is that people are created in the images and likeness of God. Additionally, they believe that human beings are the children of God. This is also true as portrayed in the Bible in the book of Genesis chapter one (American Bible Society, 1976). In the beginning, God had a purpose for man. However, after some time the human beings started to misbehave making God to send His only son Jesus. Jesus came and died for the sins of people. As Jesus was ascending to heaven, He told the Christians to spread the word of God (Tackett, 2011). According to the Christian worldview, their purpose is to spread the word of God to those people who do not know. The world views morality as relative while Christians view morality as absolute (Coy, 2008). The worldview on morality means that people have room for errors. On the other hand, Christians believe that people have to be righteous. This means that people have to be morally upright. Therefore, the Christian worldview of morality is that people must be morality upright despite the predicaments facing them. Christians believe that their destiny lies in heaven. They believe that God has a place well kept for them in heaven. According to the Bible, those people whom serve and Love God unconditionally have a place preserved for them in heaven by God (American Bible Society, 1976). Therefore, many Christians believe that their destiny is to serve and love God at all times so that they can go to heaven. Question Three The biblical worldview can certainly change the way one thinks of certain things in the society about his or her life. The Bible worldview has totally changed the way I think, speak and treat others. This is because it teaches us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Additionally, the Bible has changed my view on the career that I would like to take in future. This is because in the Bible it states that at all time man is expected to serve the Lord (American Bible Society, 1976). Therefore, the career I choose must be involved in serving the lord. Fight for Equality essays

Fight for Equality essays The nineteenth century faced an abundance of hardships as well as triumphs and discoveries. The most significant issue faced during this time was the African Americans struggle to be equal. Equality was on every black man and womans mind during the nineteenth century and keeping them from being a success was on every white mans mind. Though it was a struggle, many black men and women stood up for what they believed in and made it happen. It is these determined black men and women that are responsible for opening Americas mind to accept people, no matter of race. There is no doubt that no other issue during the nineteenth century has had a more significant impact on the twentieth century and all centuries to come. African Americans were known as the working class. This is because blacks were only allowed to be farmers and work on plantations owned by white men. They worked the land and white men prospered from it giving the African Americans only pennies to live on each day (Straker 26). The white man would do anything to [keep] a Negro down (Straker 26). Not only were they given poor wages for hard work and poor rations to live off of, but they were also told they could not own land. The blacks began to educate themselves the best they could and the white man began to notice the success of African Americans and took away what the Fifteenth Amendment gave the black community; the right to vote. The Fifteenth Amendment made it illegal to deny blacks the vote but racists found ways around the amendment by creating poll taxes which they knew blacks could not pay and literary tests which they knew most blacks would not pass (Tindall and Shi 616). States began developing plans of their own to keep blacks from voting. In Mississippi the Mississippi Plan was developed which stated that voters must live in the state for two years and in the voting district for one year. They were not a...

Habits and Traits of Darkling Beetles

Habits and Traits of Darkling Beetles The family Tenebrionidae, the darkling beetles, is one of the largest beetle families. The family name comes from the Latin tenebrio, meaning one who loves darkness. People raise darkling beetle larvae, known as mealworms, as food for birds, reptiles, and other animals. Description Most darkling beetles look similar to ground beetles, black or brown and smooth. Theyre often found hiding under rocks or leaf litter and will come to light traps. Darkling beetles are primarily scavengers. The larvae are sometimes called false wireworms because they look like click beetle larvae (which are known as wireworms). Though the Tenebrionidae family is quite large, numbering close to 15,000 species, all darkling beetles share certain characteristics. They have 5 visible abdominal sternites, the first of which is not divided by coxae (as in the ground beetles). The antennae usually have 11 segments and may be filiform  or moniliform. Their eyes are notched. The tarsal formula is 5-5-4. Classification Kingdom: AnimaliaPhylum: ArthropodaClass: InsectaOrder: ColeopteraFamily: Tenebrionidae Diet Most darkling beetles (adults and larvae) scavenge on plant matter of some kind, including stored grains and flour. Some species feed on fungi, dead insects, or even dung. Life Cycle Like all beetles, darkling beetles undergo complete metamorphosis with four stages of development: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Female darkling beetles deposit their eggs in the soil. Larvae are worm-like, with slender, elongated bodies. Pupation usually occurs in the soil. Special Adaptations and Defenses When disturbed, many darkling beetles will emit a foul-smelling liquid to dissuade predators from dining on them. Members of the genus Eleodes engage in a somewhat bizarre defensive behavior when threatened. Eleodes beetles raise their abdomens high in the air, so they almost appear to be standing on their heads, while fleeing the suspected danger. Range and Distribution Darkling beetles live worldwide, in both temperate and tropical habitats. The family Tenebrionidae is one of the largest in the beetle order, with well over 15,000 species known. In North America, darkling beetles are most diverse and abundant in the west. Scientists have described 1,300 western species, but only around 225 eastern Tenebrionids. Poem Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Poem Analysis - Essay Example Love grows in the hearts of the lovers in all directions like the octopus. A fire-walker walks on the fire for a few seconds but a lover walks for life with his heart afire. In one of the poems discussed, the lover mentions about love even after death. The interaction with the beloved and her words keeps millions of hopes of the lovers alive! The beats of the hearts of lovers are mutually controlled and the lovers respond accordingly. The bird of love moves with tantalizing speed within the hearts of lovers. Love is the eternal call that keeps the hearts of the lovers ever engaged. If God has to condemn someone, he does so by giving the lover a broken heart. After the first tremor of love, the heart is never the same forever. All such thoughts engulf my mind when I read the poems. The silken thread of love runs through the poems The Folly of Being Comforted (W. B. Yeats), My Last Duchess (Robert Browning, 1812-1889), Sonnet 116 (William Shakespeare) and Sonnet 43 - How Do I Love Thee (Elizabeth Barrett Browning). To live through the pangs of love is a great experience and the one who has gone through that process alone can understand how invaluable those moments of suffering are. True love goes on multiplying and passion diminishes with time. Love is the precious raw material for the man-woman relationship and the gift of God to humankind. In the poem â€Å"The Folly of Being Comforted† by W.B. Yeats, the speaker makes a sincere effort to describe through intellect on a subject which is the domain of heart. In the war related to love, mind and heart can never come to terms. The wise saying goes— there is a beauty in the sunrise and also in the sunset. The theme of the poem is â€Å"love transcends the physical changes in the body and, thus, it conquers time†. The poet gets upset and in an effort to find through the mental condition of unrequited love, enumerates the physical changes that happen with time, and how the body of his beloved sur renders to the demands. He pleads with the heart to be satisfied and accepts the state of beloved’s ebbing beauty. The lover is unwilling to agree that the waning beauty of his beloved is the cause for concern. The poet employs euphemism to express sympathy. He sees her hair â€Å"threads of grey† and â€Å"little shadows come about her eyes† that indicate darkened skin with small wrinkles. But they are inconsequential and the lover is still fascinated by her beauty. The lover’s intellect comes to his rescue and supports his arguments, that with the passage of time, the heart will respond better and will be able to accept the realities related to the body, the loss of beloved’s beauty and her apathy towards him. The flush of passion, in spite of beloved’s age, is emphasized by the poet in the words â€Å"fire that stirs about her, when she stirs.† This is a beautiful metaphor for fire. In the ultimate analysis, heart wins and Yeats re fuses to accept the argument of the intellect relating to the advancing age of his beloved. This poem is an unusually formed sonnet. The poet has employed simple words to produce a good sonnet, which tenders an eloquent argument against the argument that women become less beautiful with advancing age. â€Å"Sonnet 116† by William Shakespeare expresses more or less the same sentiments as expressed in â€Å"The Folly of Being Comforted† by W. B. Yeats, but with more emphasis. The first five lines indicate the true definition of love and the

Americas Oil Problem Essay -- American Economy, Oil Industry

The United States is in a recession and depends on foreigners to fuel our country. Oil companies are taking advantage of the power they have over gas prices and the economy is at one of the lowest points in all of our history. It can be seen that the way things are going now that change needs to occur for America to get back on its feet. Drastic changes will need to happen if we are going to continue to enjoy living in a very advanced and prominent country. By developing proper offshore drilling techniques, and alternate energy, America could eliminate debt and lessen dependence on foreign oil. As it stands, oil companies have a firm grasp of the American economy. As the price of oil increases, the price of living also increases. Not only that, but they are getting away with paying dues they owe. "Oil companies have escaped more than 60 billion dollars in royalties because of a loophole to get access to more leases. The United States is the third largest producer of oil in the world, and 31 percent of that production comes from land owned by the federal government" (Offshore Drilling Will Enrich Big Oil Companies 2). America maintains this title even though "America's crude oil productivity has decreased since 1985" (Crude Oil Production 1). Currently, oil is becoming more expensive and damaging the economy while America is becoming more dependent on foreign oil; decreasing productivity and narrowing offshore drilling. The oil industry is making an immense profit. Oil companies that secured leases in 1998 and 1999 haven't been paying royalties, even though a bill signed in November of 1995 required royalties to be paid in proportion to the oil profit made. An example of a company profiting because of this is "West Texas Inte... ...ational security. As voters, and future voters, we need to vote for candidates that understand the colossal importance of using renewable energy and offshore drilling to start a recovery of the economy and keep America as a power figure. It will cost billions of dollars for research and perfecting offshore drilling, but it is a long-term investment that will have an enormous payout. If America was to fail in alternative energy research and offshore drilling have multiple spills; the worse that could happen is we go farther into debt. The country is already trillions deep into debt. Taking a risk and finding other ways to generate profit is how we will stimulate growth. The future is here. Fossil fuels will not last forever. If America leads the charge into the renewable energy field we can continue to be a very powerful nation and get the economy back on track.

Night of the Scorpion Essay

The father of post Independence Indian English verse, Nissim Ezekiel, was a Mumbai born, Indian – Jewish poet, playwright, editor and art-critic. His works are an important part of Indian literary history. His major themes are love, loneliness, creativity and human foibles. Via his works, he satirized evil practices, superstitions and ignorance of the Indian people, as he has in this poem. He made Indian English poetry digestible for the common man. He wanted simplicity of thought and language in modern poetry. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection – â€Å"Latter-Day Psalms.† This poem, Night of the Scorpion, is one of his most famous poems. It has been written in ‘free verse’ which means that it is highly irregular in terms of line length and does not follow any rhyming pattern. The ‘Night of the Scorpion’ captures a scene in a rural Indian village where being bitten by a scorpion was a common fear. The narrator is a young child witnessing a horrific event in his life- his own mother writhing in agony of a scorpion’s sting. Along with the anguish of the family members, the poet describes the concern for the mother by the villagers. The child describes the scorpion as the Devil Himself by using adjectives like ‘diabolic’ and also refers to it as the metaphorical ‘Evil One’. However, the poet also says that the scorpion had been forced to â€Å"crawl beneath a sack of rice† by the torrential rain and later had to â€Å"risk the rain again†. This shows a subtle feeling of pity underlying the fact that the scorpion was the Devil Incarnate. Imagery is one of the main literary devices used in this poem. â€Å"With candles and lanterns Throwing giant scorpion shadows On the sun-baked walls† This aids us to visualize the scene of Villagers searching for the scorpion outside the cottage in the steady downpour amidst the sun-baked huts. In most rural Indian villages, the entire village is like a community. Each family shares in each other’s joys and sorrows. This is evident since the poet uses the line â€Å"the peasants came like swarms of flies.† As a hyperbole, this line shows their immense numbers. It also shows that the people were more of a hindrance than a help like a ‘swarm of flies’. It also shows how, in close-knit communities, all news spreads like wildfire. The fruitless passing of time is also shown by the line, â€Å"More candles, more lanterns, more neighbours, More insects and the endless rain.† Another aspect of rural society, unfortunately, is their belief in baseless superstitions and beliefs. Having being denied proper education facilities, they remain unaware of the truth. These uneducated villagers are clueless about proper medication. In an effort to help, they pray to god to paralyze the scorpion so that, as their superstition states, the poison would also be paralyzed in the mother’s blood. The villagers also believe in the Karma philosophy. This philosophy was born in India and in certain cultures it is intertwined with the concept of reincarnation, or life after death. The villagers chant, â€Å"May the sins of you previous birth Be burned away tonight† And, â€Å"May the poison purify your flesh Of desire and your spirit of ambition† Thus, they imply that the mother’s desires and ambitions are the sins that she is paying for. Finally, the mother’s ordeal comes to an end. In a display of mother’s unconditional love, the poem ends with the mother saying, â€Å"Thank god the scorpion picked on me and spared my children†
